I like pretty things!

I am not a real girlie, girl! I don’t wear dresses except for a very special occasion. I am defiantly not trendy BUT I do love pretty things. I feel like my style is antique, vintage, classic, pretty. I like the worn out look. I can appreciate the life that an antique had. I day dream about living in the 1920’s, I love their fashion style. If I could I would totally bring back hats. I think they are such a pretty accessory to an outfit. I like lace, I like the long necklaces and don’t forget their shoes.

Now I am not saying that all this would be comfortable. Because I do enjoy being comfortable! So since this isn’t something I can bring back, I can for sure portray it in my cards.

When I first started cardmaking, I didn’t like the “cute” look of cards. I really focused on making pretty cards. For 20 plus years that is what I made. It was sometimes tough to share them with people because I wanted them to be put on display in my craft room for me to look at. But I did end up sharing them. Now I wish I would have taken a picture of them and kept that. I have learned my lesson! I now take pictures of my cards….always!

Ok lets get started on todays card! This is how some of my cards start off. I print out on a piece of printer paper 4 A2 size rectangles. I then draw out what I am thinking in my head or what I have seen on Pinterest or FB groups. It is a really, really rough draft. But I don’t always get into my studio to remember what is in my head. So drawing it out first is always a good idea. Sometimes your card won’t even turn out the way you had envisioned it and that is OK!!! Don’t stress to much about it, just have fun!

Here are some of the supplies that were used for the card that we are working on today. This was a card I made with some of my favorite things. My favorite color, my favorite pearls and my favorite dies. It made such an elegant card. Now it is OK if you don’t have any of these supplies. This can all be done with stickers, cutouts, stickles, anything that you have. You can look at the card and just use the layout that was created. It can work for any type of card.

Out of a dark teal color cardstock, I used my square frame die to cut this shape out. I then took all the pieces and turned them in different directions to create the look I was going for. I also cut out two nesting circles one with scallops and one without to put my word on. I stamped “hello” and used white embossing powder to make it stand out. I popped that up off the front of the card to add some dimension. I then embossed with a small thin embossing folder and my embossing machine to create the strip down at the bottom. I added a few of my favorite pearls and a pearl embellishment to complete this card. Like I said before you don’t need any of these supplies to create this card. You can use paper, precut die cuts, stickers, really anything you can find to create this card. Just promise me to have fun! Because when you have fun creating cards, smiles come from the person who received your card! Have a great day! Stay warm!

Paper Hugs,
H
